Cessna 172R Skyhawk

    On Saturday, 06 October 2018 the Grand Strand Composite Squadron received a 1998 Cessna 172R Skyhawk. The aircraft was welcomed to the squadron by Lt Col Michael Speakmon, 2nd Lt Eileen Kerr and 2nd Lt Matthew Lawton. The will be based at Myrtle Beach International Airport at Beach Aviation Services.

    Cadets will be given the chance of a life time to participate in Cadet Orientation Flights, or as we call them O-Rides. The cadets will follow a detailed syllabus that breaks down five powered orientation flights into the following topics
  • Ground Handling, Preflight, Take-Off & Landing
  • Normal Flight Maneuvers
  • Advanced Flight Maneuvers
  • Use of Instruments in Flight
  • Weather
    Senior members and Cadets who are 18 or older will have the opportunity to train and become proficient in Air Search and Rescue operations. Civil Air Patrol Aircrew positions include
  • Mission Pilot (MP)
  • Transport Mission Pilot (TMP)
  • Mission Observer (MO)
  • Mission Scanner (MS)
  • Airborne Photographer (AP)
  • Highbird Radio Operator (HRO)
